Phish rhythm section Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman have both been active on social media through the beginning of the band’s Summer Tour leading to a pair interesting revelations about the lack of special guests and the initial choice for producer of the album that turned into Fuego.

Gordon has been active on Twitter for a long while (Follow Friday – Mike Gordon) and has been answering fan questions on the social media network for years. Often times Cactus shows off his sense of humor in picking the questions to respond to but once in a while he’ll share more straight-forward observations. One such case took place on Friday, when Gordon revealed why there have been so few sit- ins with Phish in recent years:

While guest spots were once a regular occurrence for Phish, they’ve become few and far between since 2009. The only musicians to share the stage with the quartet in the last year-and-a-half were TAB members Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman, who both guested with the group on “Suzy Greenberg” at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado on August 29, 2014.

Phish drummer Jon Fishman recently started Twitter and Facebook accounts (Follow Friday – Jon Fishman). On Friday Fish shared a link to an article that took aim at U2 frontman Bono featuring the title “Truly I Say To You Today That Bono Is An Asswipe.” The drummer didn’t have much complementary to say about the Irish rockers in the conversation that ensued, but we’re more interested in a response to a follower who said “Brian Eno should produce a Phish album.” Fishman responded, “We asked. He said no thanks. We got Bob Ezrin instead. I’m good with that.” Ezrin produced Phish’s latest studio album, Fuego. Eno is a famous musician and producer whose production credits include such iconic albums as Talking Heads’ Remain In Light, U2’s The Joshua Tree and David Bowie’s Outside.
