Mihali Savoulidis brought out musicians from nearly every band on the Northlands Music & Arts Festival lineup including members of Goose/Orebolo, Dopapod and more during his Mihali & Friends set on a rainy Saturday in Swanzey, New Hampshire. The Twiddle guitarist offered songs from the band’s catalog and his solo repertoire, along with a number of choice covers.
Mihali and his core band — Twiddle bassist Zdenek Gubb and drummer Adrian Tramontano, along with keyboardist Scott Hanay — kicked off the set as the rain came down with perhaps an appropriate cover of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down The House,” which saw them welcoming the Too Many Zooz Horns. Dogs In A Pile guitarist Jimmy Law then joined in for Mihali original, “Carved Lines.”

Mihali and his band then went it alone for “All Day” ahead of a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” with Dopapod guitarist Rob Compa adding fretboard fireworks. The core band then split Mihali originals “Open House” and “Strongest Of Our Kind” with covers of Stone Temple Pilots’ “Plush” and Bush’s “Glycerine” played as a medley.
Next, Mihali and company brought out Goose guitarist Rick Mitarotonda to add to Mihali’s “Breathe and Let Go.” Mitarotonda would stay on for a fitting rendition of Twiddle’s “When It Rains It Pours.” For the finale, Mihali and his band teamed with guitarist Jeremy Schon of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong for a cover of Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba.”
