Today, Grateful Dead/Dead & Company drummer Mickey Hart launches Sound Consciousness: Drones For Sonic Bathing, a 10-day meditation course created in collaboration with renowned tabla player Zakir Hussain. The first five segments of the 10-day video course can be experienced for free through the Commune platform.

Potential participants can take a healing, meditative journey through rhythm and sound in which they can wash away worries and live in the present by devoting 15 minutes a day to the sessions. “This is a sonic wonderland that gets you into the moment, into the now,” Hart explained. “It gets you to connect to the very center of you, the vibratory center of you.”

Mickey and Zakir prepped tracks mixing old musical techniques such as the tabla with new ones like digitalized rhythms of sounds from Hart’s massive array of global recordings. The drummer/percussionist weaved in mind-bending drones from his famed The Beam, an amplified Pythagorean monochord Hart has been utilizing for over 40 years. “A drone is a sonic miniature of the workings of the entire universe,” Mickey added.

Each video session contains artwork Hart created animated to the music. “These visual representations from my sonic-driven world are snapshots into the music I am making,” Mickey stated. “Painting feeds the music, and music feeds the painting. They are two halves of the same experience.”
