This year marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of influential funk band The Meters. In honor of the occasion, the original members of the band will come together with special guests in their hometown of New Orleans for a Jazz Fest after show at the Orpheum Theater on April 29.

For now, the only gigs on the books for The Original Meters featuring guitarist Leo Nocentelli, keyboardist Art Neville, drummer Zigaboo Modeliste and bassist George Porter Jr. are an appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Sunday, May 7 as well as the performance on April 29. The Meters recently played a pair of well received sets aboard Jam Cruise 15.

Not only will The Meters be joined by Ivan Neville at NOLA’s Orpheum, but also a horn section consisting of Tony Griffin, Jeff Albert, Khris Royal and Clarence Johnson III. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
