Metallica’s M72 World Tour hit Toronto’s Rogers Centre on Saturday. The metal legends tipped their caps to hometown heroes Rush with a medley of “La Villa Strangiato” and “YYZ.”
The Rush nod came during the “Kirk and Rob Doodle” segment of the show featuring Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo. The pair first tackled Rush’s “La Villa Strangiato,” originally appearing on the trio’s 1978 album, Hemispheres. Kirk and Rob also included a snippet of “YYZ,” off 1981’s Moving Pictures.
“Thank you so much,” Trujillo said following the medley. “Rush we love you, Geddy, Alex, Neil, we love you.”
