Last night at Mercury Lounge in New York City, Max Creek’s drum and percussion team of Bill Carbone and Jamemurrell Stanley was augmented in the second set by legendary Jamaican percussionist Larry McDonald. The seventy-something McDonald has performed with the likes of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Gil Scott Heron, Lee “Scratch” Perry and The Skatalites over the years.

Carbone, Stanley and McDonald powered Max Creek on a cover of The Neville Brothers’ “Yellow Moon,” originals “Wild Side,” “It Must b Nice” and “Windows” as well as an improvised “Franksgiving” jam featuring poet and Boardwalk Empire actor Frank Messina. Tonight, Max Creek performs at Infinity Hall in Hartford, where they’ll play their first acoustic set in two years followed by two electric sets.
