Chicago’s own Mavis Staples led the crowd at Wrigley Field on “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” on Saturday afternoon. Mavis also threw out the first pitch before the Chicago Cubs took on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Staples recently turned 80 and sported a Cubs jersey with the number “80” on the back. The performance of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” came during the seventh inning stretch. Harry Caray started the Windy City tradition back in 1971 when he was calling games for the White Sox. In 1982, he began calling games for the Cubs and took the tradition to Wrigley. The famed sportscaster died in 1998 at which point the Cubs would have guest performers sing the song at each game through the present.
