The National frontman Matt Berninger shared a rendition of New Order‘s “Blue Monday” as an Amazon Music Original exclusive. The song from the English group has been a staple cover on Matt Berninger’s UK/Europe Tour around his 2025 solo album, Get Sunk.
Matt tapped the same band who recorded Get Sunk to help him cut the cover of “Blue Monday” at Knobworld in Los Angeles. The track sees contributions from guitarist Sean O’Brien, bassist Garret Lang, keyboardist Julia Laws and drummer Sterling Laws. O’Brien also handled producer duties alongside Jannick Frampton.

New Order, who Matt Berninger called one of his “favorite bands,” released “Blue Monday” as a 12-inch single in 1983. It remains the best-selling 12-inch of all time and became a club favorite across the globe. “Blue Monday” would also appear on various cassette and CD versions of New Order’s 1983 LP, Power, Corruption & Lies.
Press materials described Matt Berninger’s take on the New Order hit.
“The Amazon Music Original track reimagines New Order’s synth-driven, post-punk classic with Matt Berninger’s signature baritone and a live band in a blistering take on the legendary song.”
