The National’s Matt Berninger Covers The Velvet Underground On ‘Fallon’

The National frontman was the musical guest on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Rather than play a song from his debut solo album, Serpentine Prison, Berninger opted to cover The Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting For The Man.”

Berninger released Serpentine Prison in October. The album was not just Berninger’s first solo album, it was also the first release on the Book Records imprint formed by Berninger and legendary musician Booker T. Jones, who produced Serpentine Prison.

Written by Lou Reed, “I’m Waiting For The Man,” appeared on his influential group’s 1967 debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico. Watch Berninger cover the song on The Tonight Show below:
