Margo Price welcomed collaborator and renowned Texas singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell during her Hardly Strictly Bluegrass set at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Friday. The pair teamed for their co-write “Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down.”
“Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down” arrived as the lead single for Margo Price’s new album, Hard Headed Woman. Margo co-wrote the song with Crowell and husband/musical partner Jeremy Ivey. The late great Kris Kristofferson also received a posthumous songwriting credit as he wrote a different song with the same title.

All told, Margo delivered half of the 12-track Hard Headed Woman at HSB 2025. She kicked off her set with the record’s “Losing Streak.” Additional Hard Headed Woman standouts performed included “Red Eye Flight” and “Don’t Wake Me Up,” along with the LP’s closer, a cover of Waylon Jennings’ “Kissing You Goodbye.”
Following the Jennings cover, Margo touched on her 2016 debut album, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, with “Hurtin’ (On The Bottle)” before concluding the set with a take on Bob Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm.” Price returned for a solo encore performance of Janis Joplin’s “Mercedes Benz.”
