Margo Price was in Hollywood on Tuesday to perform for Jimmy Kimmel Live. The acclaimed singer-songwriter brought “Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down” to the late night television performance.

“Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down” was the lead single off Margo Price’s new album, Hard Headed Woman, which arrived on August 29. Price drew inspiration for “Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down” from a few different wells.

The title takes its name from Margaret Atwood’s novel, The Handmaid’s Tale. The late great Kris Kristofferson also wrote a different song with the same title.

Additionally, “Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down” was a phrase Kristofferson whispered to Sinead O’Connor when she was booed at Bob Dylan‘s 30th-anniversary concert in 1992. O’Connor was facing backlash at the time for tearing up a picture of the pope on SNL.

To begin her Jimmy Kimmel Live performance, Margo Price tore up a piece of paper with the word “Bastards” on it before launching into the country rocker. Watch Margo perform “Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down” on Kimmel below:
