Marco Benevento Welcomes Dave Dreiwitz In New York City

By Scott Bernstein Oct 20, 2017 10:00 am PDT

Keyboardist Marco Benevento moved on with a run of co-bills also featuring Moon Hooch on Thursday night at Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Benevento was reunited with an old member of his trio and his current Joe Russo’s Almost Dead band mate for the evening’s encore.

Marco Benevento’s band features Karina Rykman on bass and Andrew Borger on drums. Rykman took over for Dave Dreiwitz after Ween reunited. Benevento, Borger and Rykman opened with the seven parts that make up “The Story Of Fred Short” and played such favorites as “Greenpoint,” “Dropkick,” “Heartbeats” by The Knife, “Bus Ride” and “Limbs Of A Pine.”

The band returned with Dave in tow for a four-song encore. Up first was Dreiwitz leading “The Enabler” from his Instant Death days. Karina then provided lead vocals on a cover of Butthole Surfers’ “Pepper.” The band then honored Tom Petty with a cover of “You Don’t Know How It Feels” before concluding the concert with the Marco original “At The Show.”

Tonight, Benevento and Moon Hooch team up at Underground Arts in Philadelphia.
