Lucy Dacus Releases ‘VBS’ Single & Expands 2021 Tour
Lucy Dacus continues to preview her upcoming Home Video album by sharing the single “VBS” and an accompanying video. Dacus, who added a handful of tour dates to her tour in support of the LP, will release Home Video via Matador Records on June 25.
Dacus is now slated to return to the road next month when she opens for Shakey Graves at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on June 23. Lucy will then support Bright Eyes in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on July 29; Worcester, Massachusetts on July 30 and New York City on July 31. Additionally, the singer-songwriter added headlining shows in Denver on October 6, Washington D.C. on October 23 and Brooklyn to October 26 to the already extensive tour.
“VBS” features Lucy along with guitarist Jacob Blizard and Jake Finch on drums and organ. Dacus tapped longtime collaborator Marin Leong to direct the visual for the song. The singer-songwriter shared the following regarding the latest single from her third studio album:
VBS means vacation bible school, and I went to tons of them. It’s where Christian parents send their kids over the winter, spring, or summer breaks from school to get closer to God, maybe learn some outdoor skills, and bring home useless crafts and totems like fruit of the spirit sand art and purity rings. I wrote the song in the van on the way to Nashville to record Home Video after seeing one of those readerboards outside a church advertising a wholesome church camp for kids. I thought about my first boyfriend, who I met at VBS, the resident bad boy who loved Slayer and weed more than Jesus. I took it upon myself to save him, and make him stop doing drugs (with an exception for snorting nutmeg). God, I was so lame.
