Lucinda Williams performed as part of a three-night stand at Austin City Limits Live At The Moody Theater in Austin, Texas in support of Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. One of the nights saw Williams welcome her longtime collaborator, Texas guitarist Charlie Sexton, for a cover of ZZ Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago.”
Williams would open her set with “Something Wicked This Way Comes” from her 2014 album Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone. The renowned singer-songwriter, who recently returned to performing live after suffering a stroke last year, also included material from her latest album, Good Souls Better Angels, in “Bad News Blues,” “You Can’t Rule Me” and more.

Sexton would join Williams for the final five songs of her set, beginning with the title track to her Grammy-nominated album that she recorded with Sexton, 2001’s Essence. Next came the Good Souls Better Angels track “Pray The Devil Back To Hell.” They then delivered a rendition of ZZ Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago.” The Texas rock legends recently lost their bassist Dusty Hill and Williams led Sexton and her band through the Tres Hombres cut in the Texas capital.
