Sampha & Jorja Smith Join Loyle Carner At Glastonbury

Loyle Carner returned to Glastonbury on Friday (June 27) for a set on the Other Stage. The London-based rapper was joined by special guests Sampha and Jorja Smith during his biggest set yet at England’s most prestigious festival.

Carner opened with “in my mind,” one of five tracks off his just-released fourth album, Hopefully!, to make the 16-song setlist. The British hip-hop star’s career-spanning performance also featured multiple tunes from each of his first three records: 2017’s Yesterday’s Gone, 2019’s Not Waving, But Drowning and 2022’s Hugo.

“My name is Loyle Carner, this might be the biggest show we’ve ever played in our whole fucking lives man,” the rapper said at the beginning of his set at Worthy Farm. His touring band backed Carner for the performance on Glastonbury’s second-largest stage.

For the seventh song of his set, Loyle Carner brought out Sampha. Carner’s fellow Brit contributed vocals to Not Waving, But Drowning standout “Desoleil (Brilliant Corners).”

English singer-songwriter Jorja Smith emerged a few songs later to sing “Loose Ends” with Loyle Carner. “Loose Ends” is also featured on Not Waving, But Drowning.

Loyle Carner kept the focus on Not Waving, But Drowning following Smith’s appearance by performing “Ice Water,” “Still” and “Ottolenghi” during the final portion of his show. The three songs were broken up by Hugo’s “Speed Of Plight” and Hopefully! gem “about time.”
