Los Colognes Release ‘Ballad Of A Straw Man’ Single

Nashville-based rockers Los Colognes shared a new single, “Ballad Of A Straw Man.” The song is set to land on the group’s upcoming album, The New World, due out on May 3.

Los Colognes is guitarist Jay Rutherford, drummer Aaron “Mort” Mortenson and bassist Gordon Persha. “Ballad Of A Straw Man” is the first single off their fresh album The New World.

Following the band’s 2017 record The Wave, the new LP, “puts the band back on the map and shows a more deliberate process of creation that showcases a band traversing Sisyphean stumbling blocks in order to become more fully committed to its own voice and vision,” press materials for the album noted. “The upcoming album combines all the elements of their earlier work with a more polished modern sound, a sound both accessible and nuanced, and lyrics both memetic and oracular.”

Los Colognes began crafting “Ballad Of A Straw Man” in 2020 just before the mother of all “Sisyphean stumbling blocks” hit, the COVID-19 pandemic. Working on the tune throughout the trying time became a therapy of sorts for the band.

“Anything that could get us out of our mental jail cells and into a creative flow was welcomed,” Mortenson said of working on the new track. “If anything, the entire record is a time stamp. We chose to create when we had no real idea of what was on the other side, and I’m glad we did.”
