The live music and film worlds don’t often intertwine, but this coming April fans of Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings movies will have a chance to attend screenings of the flicks in which Howard Shore’s Academy Award-winning scores will be performed by 250 musicians on stage.

The screenings/performances of the Peter Jackson-directed trilogy of movies will take place at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater in NYC. The Fellowship Of The Ring will be shown/performed on April 8 and April 11, The Two Towers will be shown/performed on April 9 and April 11 while The Return Of The King will be shown/performed on April 10 and 12. Tickets and various VIP packages are available here.

Each movie will be shown on a giant screen. Underneath the screen, the 250 musicians that make up the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will perform live to the films. “The trilogy at Lincoln Center is unique and something powerful happens -a synergy is created -in bringing together the music, live on a massive scale, with the films, in a magnificent house, and not only for one night, but presented over the course of a week… We hope that everyone who travels from near or far will feel they’ve arrived at a kind of contemporary, cultural Middle-earth,” Shore said in a statement announcing the series.
