After a long day of announcements, the initial lineup for the 2017 Lockn’ Festival has been confirmed. All told 23 acts have been revealed including a mix of newcomers and Lockn’ ‘Lumni. Read full details below.

The 2017 Lockn’ Festival will take place at Oak Ridge Farm in Arrington, Virginia between August 24 – 27. Today, festival organizers revealed the initial lineup for the fifth annual Lockn’ Festival throughout the day with the promise of more to come.

The Avett Brothers will make their Lockn’ debut at the 2017 festival. Additionally, Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead will return to the event after making their debut with two late night performances in 2016. The third act announced today was Brandi Carlile, who was on the 2016 lineup but was unable to perform. We also have our first musician to play each and every installment of Lockn’, Keller Williams. Williams is listed both as a solo performer and as Keller Williams’ Grateful Gospel. The second musician to play all five Lockn’s is Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh. Lesh will perform with Phil Lesh & Friends as well as with The Terrapin Family Band for a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Terrapin Station.

It was hard not to note Warren Haynes’ absence from Lockn’ 16, but he’ll be back in August with Gov’t Mule. The same can be said of The String Cheese Incident and Widespread Panic, who despite absences in 2016, are returning in 2017.

One of the few major jam acts not to perform at Lockn’ is moe. and that will finally change in 2017. Another band set to play the event for the first time in August is JJ Grey & Mofro. While Eric Krasno is a Lockn’ alumni, in 2017 he’ll bring his Eric Krasno Band project. Furthermore, the John Butler Trio, The Revivalists, Los Colognes and Margo Price are aboard for Lockn ’17 as are Greensky Bluegrass, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, TAUK, The Suffers and the Marcus King Band. While Umphrey’s McGee weren’t part of the inaugural fest, they have since brought their signature sound to each installment and will do so again in 2017.

Lockn’ is co-produced by Peter Shapiro and Dave Frey. The first installment of the festival was held in 2013 and it has returned each year since. In 2016 Lockn’ moved from its traditional early September weekend to the final weekend of August. The festival is known for its jam-friendly lineups, one-of-a-kind collaborations and few overlapping sets. An email sent by Shapiro’s Relix publication mentioned more Lockn’ ’17 artists will be announced throughout the day.

Tickets and passes for Lockn’ 17 are available now via the festival’s website.
