Little Feat Welcomes Jamey Johnson, Charlie Starr, Marcus King & More At The Ryman
Amy Helm, Nicki Bluhm, Tommy Emmanuel, Jeff Hanna and John Cowan also sat-in in Nashville.
Jamey Johnson, Charlie Starr and Marcus King were among Little Feat‘s guests last night for their first of two Waiting For Columbus 45th Anniversary Tour stops at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The legendary band was also joined by Nicki Bluhm, John Cowan, Tommy Emmanuel, Jeff Hanna and Amy Helm on Wednesday.
Little Feat performed their iconic 1978 studio album, which was recorded in 1977, as last night’s main set. The concert was filmed for a future PBS special.
The group took the stage to the soundtrack of “Join The Band” and then launched into “Fat Man In The Bathtub.” Blackberry Smoke frontman Charlie Starr stepped into the spotlight for “Fat Man” and the ensuing “All That You Dream” with Bluhm, Helm, Hanna and Cowan providing backing vocals. Nicki, Amy, Jeff and John stuck around to help sing the “Oh Atlanta” that followed. The Midnight Ramble Horns are aboard for the tour and contributed to various portions of the evening.
Little Feat continued sans guests for the next portion of the show and then brought back the vocalists for a “Dixie Chicken” featuring Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel. Tommy also contributed to the “Tripe Face Boogie” that came next. Later, Jamey Johnson and Nicki Bluhm dueted on “Willin.'”
Wednesday’s main set concluded with Marcus King starring on “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now.” Little Feat returned for a two-song encore after the Waiting For Columbus performance. Amy Helm was featured on “Long Distance Love” from 1975’s The Last Record Album, while King returned to shred the title track off 1988’s Let It Roll.
Little Feat concludes the two-night stand at The Ryman tonight. Nicki Bluhm, Eric Church, John Cowan, Jeff Hanna, JoJo Hermann, Connor Kennedy and Bettye LaVette are the guests expected.
