Little Feat brought out Cris Jacobs to lead them through “Down On The Farm” on Monday night in Akron, Ohio. Jacobs and his band opened the concert at Akron’s Goodyear Theater before the singer-songwriter returned to the stage during the headlining set.
Monday marked the sixth stop of Little Feat’s Strike Up The Band Tour supporting their recently released studio album of the same name. Cris Jacobs, who called Little Feat one of his “all time favorite bands,” hopped on tour for the second show of the run and will continue to open through Friday’s concert in Davenport, Iowa.

Little Feat uncorked an 18-song performance in Akron filled with performances of such classics as “Fat Man In The Bathtub,” “Spanish Moon,” “Time Loves A Hero,” “On Your Way Down,” “Willin’,” “Dixie Chicken” and “Skin It Back.” Cris Jacobs emerged with electric guitar in hand late in the set.
“Down On The Farm” is the title track from Little Feat’s 1979 studio album. The band completed work on the nine-track LP after the tragic death of founding frontman Lowell George. Paul Barrere wrote “Down On The Farm” for the record and sang the studio version.
Cris Jacobs delivered an impassioned vocal performance of “Down On The Farm” with Little Feat. The Baltimore native also threw down a fiery guitar solo and traded licks with Scott Sharrard, Fred Tackett and Bill Payne.
“What a hoot to get up and sing and play ‘Down On the Farm’ with Little Feat last night in Akron. They sound so incredible. It’s inspiring to see a legendary band that has nothing more to prove still pushing it and digging in every night. And they are all the nicest people and couldn’t be more kind and hospitable to this lonesome solo troubadour out here. Grateful to be following them around for a few more,” Jacobs wrote on Instagram Tuesday.
