Steve Kimock, Bettye LaVette, Tommy Emmanuel and John Leventhal were Little Feat‘s special guests last night at The Beacon Theatre. The band’s Tuesday night concert in New York City was the latest stop on a tour celebrating the 45th anniversary of their famed Waiting For Columbus live album.

Little Feat devoted their main set to a complete Waiting For Columbus performance. The album, which was released in 1978, documents a series of 1977 concerts in London and Washington D.C. The group’s current lineup featuring longtime members Bill Payne on keyboards, percussionist Sam Clayton, multi-instrumentalist Fred Tackett and bassist Kenny Gradney along with drummer Tony Leone and guitarist Scott Sharrard took the stage as a pre-recorded “Join The Band” played over the venue’s speakers.

“Fat Man In The Bathtub” opened last night’s show and saw Little Feat augmented by The Midnight Ramble Horns as they would be for portions of the evening. A run of “All That You Dream,” “Oh Atlanta” and “Old Folks Boogie” followed before Payne introduced his bandmates and dedicated “Time Loves A Hero” to late Little Feat members Lowell George, Paul Barrère and Richie Hayward. Guitarist Steve Kimock served as the first guest a few songs later on “Spanish Moon.” Then, Tommy Emmanuel added acoustic guitar to a pairing of “Dixie Chicken” and “Tripe Face Boogie.”

Little Feat and the horns went it alone for the ensuing “Rocket In My Pocket.” Next, the band presented an acoustic “Willin'” featuring guitarist John Leventhal. A singalong “Don’t Bogart That Joint” followed. From there vocalist Bettye LaVette emerged to sing “A Apolitical Blues” with Sam Clayton. After “Sailin’ Shoes,” Kimock returned for a set-closing “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now.” The band capped the evening by covering Allen Toussaint’s “On Your Way Down” featuring LaVette on lead vocals as the encore.
