Grammy-nominated funk outfit Lettuce released their “VIBE” improv piece on streaming for the first time today. The +47-minute track was previously only available on a limited run of vinyl.
Lettuce — drummer Adam Deitch, guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes, saxophonist Ryan Zoidis, trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom and keyboardist Nigel Hall — captured the exploration during the sessions for their 2020 album, Resonate.

“We had just finished tracking what we had planned on,” Zoidis recalled of the session. “We got into a vibe and we hit record. 48 minutes went by like a blink of an eye. This is our first purely improvised recording. Nothing planned, nothing edited or overdubbed. This is a true spontaneous musical expression captured in its entirety.”
“VIBE is a journey into the universe of psychedelic improvisation,” Smirnoff added.
