Laufey was the musical guest on Wednesday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Icelandic singer-songwriter delivered her hit “Lover Girl” for the late night television performance.
“Lover Girl” resides on Laufey’s acclaimed 2025 album, A Matter Of Time, which arrived on August 22. The LP is up for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
Laufey unveiled “Lover Girl” live during a concert in Mexico City earlier this year. The singer-songwriter gave some background on the tune:
“I wrote this song when I was on tour, and last year, I was in Tokyo, and I was missing a certain someone, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I have become the person that I made fun of for years.’ You know, like a simp. And so I thought, ‘you know, it’s funny because I’ve always been known as the never going to fall in love girl.’ And now I’ve become the lover girl.”
For her “Lover Girl” performance on Fallon, Laufey played electric guitar on the bossa nova number backed by a rhythm section and string quartet. Watch Laufey bring “Lover Girl” to The Tonight Show below:
