Larkin Poe Covers ‘Black Betty’ Live At The Current

Atlanta-based blues-rock duo Larkin Poe recently performed a cover of Lead Belly’s “Black Betty” during a session held at Minnesota Public Radio station The Current. The band of sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell also played a pair of tunes from their 2018 album Venom & Faith. The Current shared pro-shot video of two of the three songs from Larkin Poe’s session including “Black Betty.”
While “Black Betty” might best be known from Ram Jam’s rock-heavy take on the song from 1977, its origins date back over 50 years prior. Lead Belly was among the first to record the tune in 1939. Rebecca and Megan put their own spin on “Black Betty” for inclusion on their 2017 Larkin Poe LP Peach.
