Ladysmith Black Mambazo Replaces Simon With Matthews

Earlier this month Ladysmith Black Mambazo announced they would be joined by special guest Paul Simon on Saturday, October 18 at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The concert, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Friends, is part of Carnegie Hall’s month-long festival, UBUNTU: Music and Arts of South Africa, which started on October 8. While Ladysmith recently announced Simon will be unable to perform at the show, they followed it up, as pointed out by Jambands.com, that Dave Matthews will guest with the group at tomorrow night’s concert.

Matthews has never performed with Ladysmith Black Mambazo in the past. In addition to Ladysmith, the October 18th concert will also feature South African ensembles Thokoza (six-woman choral group), the Bakithi Kumalo Band (led by Paul Simon’s longtime bass player), and Shabalala Rhythm, as well as Zulu maskandi musician Maqhinga Radebe. As of press time there’s no word about refunds being offered to those who were expecting to watch Paul Simon perform.
