Seattle-birthed band La Luz returned to KEXP Studios back in May. The group offered songs from their new album News of the Universe for the Seattle-based listener-supported radio station’s Live on KEXP series.

News of the Universe is La Luz’s final album with longtime members bassist Lena Simon and keyboardist Alice Sandahl. It also marked the band’s first record with new drummer Audrey Johnson. Maryam Qudus produced News of the Universe and is now a member of the band. The LP arrived via Sub Pop on May 24.

Roughly a week after the LP’s release, La Luz came to KEXP Studios. “I daresay a band that has visited the KEXP Studios maybe more than most,” host Cheryl Waters said during her introduction of the group led by founding member and guitarist/lead singer Shana Cleveland. Along with Johnson on drums and Qudus on keyboards, the new La Luz lineup also includes bassist Lee Johnson.

La Luz kicked off their most recent KEXP session with News of the Universe’s “Strange World.” The band also offered the album tracks “Good Luck With Your Secret” and “Always In Love” before wrapping with “Poppies.”
