King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard brought their European Tour to Stadtpark Open Air in Hamburg, Germany on a rainy Wednesday. The band offered the live premiere of the title track from their latest studio album, electronic odyssey The Silver Cord during the Marathon Set.

In Berlin on Monday, King Gizzard offered first time plays of The Silver Cord’s “Extinction” along with the electro-tinged Changes cut “Gondii.” The band continued the live Silver Cord rollout on Wednesday with the title track.

The debut saw Stu Mackenzie, Joey Walker, Cook Craig and Lucas Harwood assembled around the band’s electronic station with Michael Cavanagh behind the kit and Ambrose Kenny-Smith presiding over his keyboard world.

The Silver Cord arrived on October 27, 2023 and contained two editions, Original and Extended Mix. Here’s Stu detailing the record.

“The first version’s really condensed, trimming all the fat. And on the second version, that first song, ‘Theia’, is 20 minutes long. It’s the ‘everything’ version – those seven songs you’ve already heard on the first version, but with a whole lot of other shit we record while making it. It’s for the Gizz-heads. I love Donna Summer’s records with Giorgio Moroder, and I’d never listen to the short versions now – I’m one of those people who wants to hear the whole thing. We’re testing the boundaries of people’s attention spans when it comes to listening to music, perhaps – but I’m heavily interested in destroying such concepts.”

The live premiere of “The Silver Cord” would fall in the Extended Mix for the Gizz-heads category at over 27 minutes long. Watch below.

The show began with a song that is often a closer, “Float Along – Fill Your Lungs,” which contained the opening jam along with a substantial “Motor Spirit” segment with lyrics. A three-song seamless sequence of “People-Vultures,” “Mr. Beat” and “Evil Death Roll” followed with the latter two songs both containing teases of the yet-to-be played in full Silver Cord opener “Theia.”

The band continued to tease electronic material during “Hot Water” with elements of “Gondii.” The show also contained the recently debuted “Le Risqué”, which features Cavs on lead vocals. Following “The Silver Cord,” King Gizzard put an exclamation point on the concert with a murder’s row of thrashy material: “Mars For the Rich,” “Organ Farmer,” “Supercell,” “Converge” and “Witchcraft.”

The band sealed the Hamburg play with the aforementioned “Motor Spirit” worked into “Gaia.” Watch the full show below:
