King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard launched their 2024 European Tour on Wednesday at the Forest National in Brussels, Belgium. The Australian rockers delivered the premiere of a track off their 2023 album, PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation.
King Gizzard eased their way into a massive “Am I In Heaven?” to kick off the show. The band — Stu Mackenzie, Joey Walker, Michael Cavanagh, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig and Lucas Harwood — included elements of “Robot Stop” “Cut Throat Boogie” and “Witchcraft” in the 23-minute odyssey.

The impending debut of “Flamethrower” was also foreshadowed within “Am I In Heaven?” Cavanagh threw the band into the thrasher with a rapid-fire fill before Mackenzie led the way on the live premiere of the PetroDragonic Apocalypse closer, which boasted a triple guitar attack from Stu, Joey and Cook.
KGLW followed with two additional tracks off their 2023 LP: “Witchcraft” and “Supercell.” The band then delivered live staple “Crumbling Castle.” The Polygondwanaland cut contained “Deserted Dunes Welcome Weary Feet” teases and was paired with “The Fourth Colour.”
Next, King Gizzard jumped into the bluesy “This Thing,” featuring the harmonica stylings of Kenny-Smith and helmed by Joey Walker. The band also teased the similar sounding ZZ Top classic “La Grange,” musically and with impromptu parody lyrics from Walker.
The sextet then offered a three-song seamless sequence beginning with two songs from two of their five albums released in 2022 as an exploratory “Iron Lung” (Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava) bled into Laminated Denim’s “Hypertension,” the latter mixing myriad call back and foreshadowing teases. The sequence came to a close with “Work This Time,” capped with a nearly four-minute drum solo from Cavanagh.
“Magma” then preceded “Float Along – Fill Your Lungs” to seal the show. Find full show video and audio of King Gizzard’s European Tour opener in Brussels below:
