King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard brought their 2024 North American Tour to Toronto’s Budweiser Stage on Wednesday. KGLW concluded the concert with the live debut of “Set” off their 2023 electronic album, The Silver Cord.
King Gizzard kicked off the concert with a thrash segment beginning with a pair of songs off 2019’s Infest The Rat’s Nest: “Perihelion” and “Venusian 2.” The band then shifted to 2023’s PetroDragonic Apocalypse, performing a pairing of “Converge” and “Witchcraft.”

The set continued with “The Great Chain of Being,” “Dragon” and “Hypertension” before the band got into material off their new album, Flight b741. Multi-instrumentalist Ambrose Kenny-Smith boogied through “Antarctica” ahead of a group effort on “Field of Vision” followed by “Raw Feel.”
KGLW then strung together a trio of older favorites: “Hot Water,” “Robot Stop” and “Gamma Knife.” Guitarist/keyboardist Cook Craig then stepped into the spotlight for “The Garden Goblin,” a co-write with guitarist Stu Mackenzie appearing on the band’s 2022 album Omnium Gatherum.
Ahead of “Goblin,” Cookie told a story about how his neighbor’s cat, Bruno, had died and then another cat that looked just like him showed up, which the neighbor promptly named Bruno. The band also took the time to show some appreciation for drummer Michael Cavanagh. Craig then led the way through “Garden Goblin,” which saw guitarist Joey Walker at the synth table.
Next, bassist Lucas Harwood, Stu, Cookie and Amby headed to the synth table. The band slid into The Silver Cord’s “Extinction” with Joey on guitar for the nearly 15-minute rendition. Walker then joined his bandmates at the table for the premiere of “Set,” with Mackenzie on lead vocals. The song saw members tricking back to their respective positions, save for Stu, as Cavs held down a locked in four on the floor beat over the course of the space-disco-infused Silver Cord live debut to seal the set.
