King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard concluded a tour of Europe and the U.K. last night with a concert at the Troxy in London. The Australian rock band worked their first electric version of Gumboot Soup standout “The Wheel” in nearly four years into Thursday’s show.
“The Wheel” was last trotted out for two acoustic performances in December of 2021. King Gizz previously played the song featured on 2017’s Gumboot Soup in its electric form back on October 9, 2019 in Brussels as per Setlist.FM. Thursday’s take came in the 10-slot.
King Gizz’s show at the former cinema in East London featured 18 songs in total. The prolific ensemble trotted out material from 10 different albums over the course of the evening. 2017’s Murder Of The Universe was represented in the setlist by a run of “A New World,” “Altered Beast III,” “Alter Me II” and “Alerted Beast IV” after “The Wheel.”
Stu Mackenzie and company put out five albums in 2022. On Thursday, they performed “Magenta Mountain,” “Predator X” and “Sadie Sorceress” from last year’s Omnium Gatherum as well as Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava tunes “Ice V” and “Lava.” King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard ended the night and tour with a tease-filled “Am I In Heaven?”
