Hermanos Gutiérrez & Khruangbin’s Laura Lee Take Brooklyn Steel To The Seaside

Hermanos Gutiérrez recently delivered two sold-out shows at New York City’s Brooklyn Steel. The guitar duo welcomed Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee for a performance of “El Mar” at the end of the concerts on Saturday (May 18) and Sunday (May 19) nights.

Hermanos Gutiérrez joined Khruangbin for a West Coast swing in April. Khruangbin recently released a new album, A La Sala. Hermanos Gutiérrez have a new record on the way, the Dan Auerbach-produced, Sonido Cósmico, due out June 14 via Easy Eye Sound.

Hermanos Gutiérrez included a selection of songs from Sonido Cósmico at Brooklyn Steel: the title track, “Low Sun,” “Los Navegantes” and “Until We Meet Again.” The aforementioned “El Mar” appears on Hermanos Gutiérrez’ 2017 debut album, 8 A​ñ​os.

Laura Lee shared her thoughts on the recent sit-in with Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez:

I don’t usually include personal testimonies in my notes, but I have to say the show on Sunday at Brooklyn Steel was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had — you could quite literally hear a pin drop. Everyone, including myself, was completely transfixed, phones nowhere in sight.

The music of the brothers is truly so special, so mesmerizing — and their fan base is obsessed. At one point, Estevan took off his jacket and the crowd WHOOPED… I forgot for a minute that I was watching two guitarists and not say, BTS or One Direction.
