Watch Khruangbin Perform ‘August 10’ On August 10th With Youth Orchestra Los Angeles Alumni

Khruangbin kicked off a run of August shows in the Western U.S. on Saturday with a two-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The band performed their song, “August 10,” on August 10 with the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles Alumni who stuck around to help the trio close their set.

Khruangbin — bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson Jr. and guitarist Mark “Marko” Speer — are touring around their latest studio album, A La Sala, which arrived on April 4.

Khruangbin delivered a full performance of the A La Sala to begin both their Hollywood Bowl shows. The album opens with “Fifteen Fifty‐Three” and includes instant favorites such as “May Ninth” and “Pon Pón.” The record closes with the vibey “Les Petits Gris.” Watch the band perform “Les Petits Gris” on August 10 below:

Set two got underway with “Cómo Me Quieres” off the trio’s 2018 LP, Con Todo el Mundo. Set two also included “The Recital That Never Happened,” “Lady and Man,” “The Infamous Bill,” “Pelota” and “So We Won’t Forget.”

Following “Zionsville” — from the groove group’s 2015 debut full-length album The Universe Smiles Upon You — Khruangbin welcomed the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles Alumni beginning with “August 10.”

“Happy August 10th,” Mark Speer said after introducing the orchestra and before dropping into the Con Todo el Mundo cut. The Hollywood Bowl was designed over 100 years ago for orchestral music and the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles Alumni and conductor Derrick Hodges did a surgical job of filling in the copious space that exists in Khruangbin’s music.
