Organizers of the Newport Folk Festival unveiled pro-shot video featuring Kermit The Frog’s “Rainbow Connection” duet with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. The performance came as part of the If I Had A Song all-star set that brought last year’s festival at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island to a close.
Kermit started the song, which was written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher for The Muppet Movie in 1979, and welcomed Jim James to join him halfway through “Rainbow Connection.” Jim and Kermit were backed by Chris Funk, Chris Pandolfi, Benmont Tench, John Stirratt, Janet Weiss, Scout Funk, Berklee Strings and Kevin Clark. Other highlights from the set included Trey Anastasio & Rachael Price dueting on The Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows;” Jason Isbell teaming up with Robin Pecknold, Eric D. Johnson and Judy Collins for “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” and Hozier performing “Everyday People” with Lake Street Dive.
