Katie Pruitt Details ‘Mantras’ Tour In Support Of 1st New Album In 5 Years

Nashville-based musician Katie Pruitt will hit the road this spring for a series of headline tour dates surrounding her forthcoming studio album, Mantras. Pruitt’s first new album since her 2019 debut, Expectations, features new single “White Lies, White Jesus & You” and arrives on April 5 via Rounder Records.

The singer-songwriter recorded the 11-track effort at The Shed in Nashville with producers Jake Finch and Collin Pastore. Mantras finds Katie Pruitt accompanied by Finch and Pastore as well as Maggie Chaffee (strings), Dave Cohen (keys), Anthony Da Costa (guitar), Kris Donegan (guitar), Laura Epling (strings), Camille Faulkner (strings), Will Honaker (guitar, keys), Taylor Ivey (bass), Kevin McGowan (drums) and Johnny Williamson (guitar).

Katie Pruitt stated the following about her experience making Mantras:

“Mantras is a full circle journey from self-sabotage to self-compassion. Writing this record forced me to stop seeking external validation from the rest of the world and turn my focus inward. After hitting a low point that caused me to seek extensive therapy, I realized I had a problem with negative self-talk. So I started writing down phrases of encouragement and repeating mantras in the mirror. Through this practice I learned how to be a kinder friend to myself and ultimately a kinder friend to others. When life gets heavy and the future feel overwhelmingly out of our control, we can learn to turn inwards and build a home inside of ourselves.”

The Mantras tour of North America begins on March 28 in Asheville, North Carolina and runs through a hometown show at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl on May 23. Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, San Francisco, New York City and Chicago are among the cities Katie Pruitt will play over the course of the two-month excursion.

Pre-sale tickets go up for grabs starting next Wednesday, January 17 at 10 a.m. local time. General on-sales follow next Friday, January 19 at 10 a.m. local time.

Out today is “White Lies, White Jesus & You,” a new song featured on Mantras. “I wrote ‘White Lies, White Jesus & You’ about shedding any remaining shame associated with the church,” explained Pruitt. “It’s an intentional protest song rejecting the narrative that the Bible’s purpose is to gate-keep or oppress. I hope it serves as a reminder to anyone who has ever been hurt by religion, that spirituality is yours to define for yourself and no institution can take that away from you.”
