Karl Denson Brings Back Sexual Chocolate At Outside Lands

By Scott Bernstein Aug 11, 2015 6:20 am PDT

On Sunday afternoon Outside Lands hosted a set from Sexual Chocolate, a group featuring saxophonist Karl Denson featured in the 1988 Eddie Murphy comedy Coming To America. Denson and Tiny Universe dressed as the fictional band from the movie did in the film for a performance on the GastroMagic Stage at the San Francisco festival, where they played songs from Coming To America while fronted by singer Ziek McCarter of Con Brio.

McCarter, Denson and the rest of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe’s Sexual Chocolate set included such songs from Coming To America as covers of Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love Of All” and Jackie Wilson’s “To Be Loved” as well as the film’s theme song and of course the music from the “SoulGlo” commercial that is a vital part of the movie. Though Con Brio didn’t perform at Outside Lands, McCarter headed to the festival after his band had opened for Morris Day & The Time at Stern Grove earlier in the day. As if the scene at the GastroMagic Stage wasn’t wild enough, a chocolatier from Guittard Chocolate Company created a sculpture of chocolate as the band performed.

We’ve compiled four clips from the Sexual Chocolate set thanks to KrystalO:
