Kamasi Washington Shares ‘Hub-Tones’ Video

Earlier this year, Kamasi Washington released Heaven and Earth via Young Turks. Today, the saxophonist has shared the Jenn Nkiru-directed video for “Hub-Tones.” The song, which Washington included on his latest studio effort, is his interpretation of the title track from trumpeter Freddie Hubbard’s 1963 release.
“’Hub-Tones’ is me trying to connect my ancestors via music,” shared Washington. “As an African-American, a lot of us don’t know the country of our origin, that’s why most of us take on the ideology of Pan-Africanism. I was trying to connect to my ancestors by connecting African rhythms with a Freddie Hubbard tune which gave me that connection in a different way.” Washington kicks off his North Amerian Tour in support of Heaven and Earth tonight at The Showbox in Seattle.
