Musical collective KAMANI led by drummer/vocalist Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power/Maceo Parker) and multi-instrumentalist Robert “Sput” Searight (Snarky Puppy/Ghost-Note) confirmed their 2021 tour dates. The band will head out on the road in August and follows an appearance at Suwannee Hulaween with shows in November and December.

Glaspie and Searight are joined in KAMANI by bassist Matt Lapham (Roosevelt Collier Trio), guitarist/vocalist Kat Dyson and a rotating crew of keyboardists that includes Nigel Hall (Lettuce), Xavier Taplin (Ghost-Note) and Shaun Martin (Snarky Puppy). The band was formed last fall and embarked on a two-week tour this past May.

“We play the funk a bit differently because we’ve played with the masters. We’re taking that knowledge and keeping it alive,” explained Glaspie of the project. “I’m a purist when it comes to funk music. There’s no water in this — it’s real, unfiltered, uncut, unadulterated funk. We show up and do what we do best, which is make people dance for two hours. It’s a dance party. That’s my main job playing drums in general, but specifically relating to this band, is to get people moving. Anybody can relate to us because you can’t help but dance.”

KAMANI opens their tour at Nightfall Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 6. Dates in Atlanta, Raleigh, Lexington, Charleston, Charlotte, Asheville and Nashville follow later in the month. The group returns to the road in November for shows in New Orleans on the 18th, Houston on the 19th, Austin on the 20th and Dallas on the 21st. KAMANI also confirmed a trip to Colorado that includes stops in Nederland on December 17 and Denver on December 18.
