As noted, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena was the site of last night’s “Love Rising” benefit concert with proceeds going to pro-LGBTQ+ organizations Tennessee Equality Project, inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis and The Tennessee Pride Chamber. Julien Baker was among the all-star lineup of musicians that participated in the event, utilizing her time on stage to cover a song by Neko Case.
“Love Rising” presented performances by Hozier, Allison Russell, Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, Sheryl Crow, Hayley Williams, Brittany Howard, Maren Morris, Yola, Julien Baker, Joy Oladokun, Ruby Amanfu, Shea Diamond and others. The Highwomen (minus Brandi Carlile and Natalie Hemby) led a collaborative performance of “Crowded Table” while joined by local Nashville drag performers.
More “Love Rising” coverage
Baker, who will soon tour behind boygenius‘ debut album with bandmates Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus, went solo for her “Love Rising” appearance. Playing a Fender Telecaster electric guitar, Baker’s stark, slowed-down arrangement of Neko Case’s “Man” differed dramatically from the rocking version on Case’s 2013 album, The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You.
