boygenius — the supergroup consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker — confirmed the March 31 release of their debut full-length studio album entitled the record via Interscope Records. The trio unveiled “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry” and “True Blue,” three singles from the LP.
boygenius put out an eponymous debut EP in 2018 and toured behind the six-track collection. The three songs put out today mark the three-piece’s first new music since issuing demos from the boygenius sessions in 2020, the same year work on the record began.
Phoebe sent her bandmates a demo of “Emily I’m Sorry” in June 2020 following the release of her Punisher LP asking if they could be a band again as per press materials. The musicians then loaded a shared Google Drive with material for the project.
boygenius continued prepping songs together after each member got vaccinated. Bridgers, Dacus and Baker recorded the record during sessions held in January 2022 at the famed Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, California. Produced and written by boygenius, the long-awaited album features 12 songs.
The trio will share the stage at Coachella in April. Stream “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry” and “True Blue” below:
