Out today from Joy Oladokun is the auto-biographical new song, “Taking Things For Granted.” The track is one of 13 featured on the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s new album, Proof Of Life, which comes out on April 28 via Amigo Records/Verve Forecast/Republic Records.
Joy Oladokun produced the follow-up to her excellent 2021 album, in defense of my own happiness, with Mike Elizondo, Ian Fitchuk, Dan Wilson and Alysa Vanderhym. “Taking Things For Granted” is the fifth cut from Proof Of Life shared in advance of the album’s arrival next Friday. Included among them are the duet “Sweet Symphony” featuring Chris Stapleton and her “We’re All Gonna Die” collaboration with Noah Kahan.

The latest Proof Of Life single finds Oladokun exploring new sounds and singing from her heart about social struggles endured while growing up. “I wrote taking things for granted about the way the things we’ve been through shape the way we grow up to see the world,” Oladokun explained. “Producing this song was one of my favorite moments of making this record because it was equal parts honest and experimental.”
