Singer-songwriter Jonathan Wilson will issue a new studio album, Rare Birds, via Bella Union on March 2. The multi-instrumentalist’s record is available to stream via NPR Music’s First Listen series in advance of next Friday’s official release.

Wilson enlisted Father John Misty’s Josh Tillman to contribute to Rare Birds. Wilson produced the 2017 Father John Misty album Pure Comedy and also spent time last year touring as a member of Roger Waters’ band alongside members of Lucius who also appear on Rare Birds. Vocalist Lana Del Rey and New Age icon Laraaji also contributed to Rare Birds, which was produced by Wilson and recorded at his Fivestarstudios in Echo Park, Los Angeles.

The follow-up to 2013’s Fanfare was recorded while Wilson was in the studio contributing to Waters’ Grammy-nominated solo album Is This The Life We Really Want?. The 13-track Rare Birds marks the first of Wilson’s albums to feature drum machines and synthesizers.
