Late this year John McLaughlin And The 4th Dimension will embark on a co-headlining “The Meeting Of The Spirits” tour with Widespread Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring and his new band The Invisible Whip. McLaughin and Herring will each play a set with their own groups before coming together for “an expansive closing jam based on classic Mahavishnu Orchestra material.” The upcoming tour is expected to be McLaughlin’s last run in the U.S.

The coming tour marks McLaughlin’s first extensive U.S. tour in seven years. Meeting of the Spirits also marks his first extended exploration of the Mahavishnu Orchestra material from seminal albums such as Inner Mounting Flame, Birds of Fire, Between Nothingness and Eternity, Visions of the Emerald Beyond and more since the band’s original heyday in the 1970s. John McLaughlin’s band features Ranjit Barot (drums), Gary Husband (keyboards, drums), and Etienne M’Bappé (bass). Jimmy Herring’s band finds him joined by Jeff Sipe (drums), Matt Slocum (B3 and Clavinet), Jason Crosby (Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer) and Kevin Scott (bass).

The tour begins at the University of Buffalo Center for the Arts in Buffalo on November 1. Jimmy and John then bring their bands to Albany, New York City, Port Chester, Cranston, Boston, Philadelphia, Newark, Washington D.C., Durham, Ann Arbor (November 15, venue TBA), Chicago, Indianapolis, Nashville, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Clearwater, New Orleans, Austin, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
