John Mayer’s solo acoustic tour rolled into Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on Wednesday. The guitarist and singer-songwriter unveiled a cover of the Queen/David Bowie classic “Under Pressure” in the ATL.
Mayer slotted “Under Pressure” into the ninth song spot of his 24-song concert in Atlanta. Along with being an exceptional musician, John is also a keen observer of music history. Mayer performed “Under Pressure” on the eve of Queen and David Bowie’s U.S. release of the iconic collab as a single on October 26, 1981. Mayer would take the timely cover into his “Last Train Home.” Watch both performances below.

Mayer has also been fielding sign requests on the solo acoustic excusion — the Long Island stop on Saturday saw the Dead & Company guitarist performing Grateful Dead’s “Bird Song” for a man who had his bird on his tablet — and he continued the trend in Atlanta. John made good on requests for his beloved Heavier Things track “Daughters” in the second song slot and later in the set offered a request medley of “Something Like Olivia,” “Split Screen Sadness” and “New Light,” the latter off his latest studio album, Sob Rock.
A pair of Born and Raised cuts — “Age Of Worry” and “Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967″ — split by the Room For Squares classic “Your Body Is A Wonderland” (sans “Dark Star”) brought Mayer’s main set to a close. John would return for a two song encore of “Comfortable” and Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” to cap the concert. Check out video of “Comfortable” from Atlanta:
