On July 16, guitarist John Mayer will release Sob Rock, his eighth full-length studio album, via Columbia Records. Today, Mayer unveiled the 10-track album’s lead single, “Last Train Home,” along with an accompanying video.

The follow-up to 2017’s The Search For Everything was produced by Mayer and Don Was. John recorded Sob Rock at Los Angeles’ Henson Studios.

Mayer mixes genres on the 1980s-esque “Last Train Home.” The guitarist is joined on Sob Rock’s opening track by Maren Morris on vocals as well as renowned keyboardist Greg Phillinganes and percussionist Lenny Castro. John Mayer returns to the road with Dead & Company in August for the band’s Summer & Fall Tours 2021.

The guitarist will debut “Last Train Home” live this Monday, June 7 on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Mayer tapped Cameron Duddy & Harper Smith to direct the visual for the track.
