John Mayer Honors Bruce Springsteen In New Jersey
By Jeffrey Greenblatt Aug 20, 2017 • 8:34 am PDT

Last night John Mayer played his second of two shows in New Jersey, with a gig at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. For his second night in the Garden State the singer-guitarist used the opportunity like a number of other acts this summer to nod to Jersey’s native son Bruce Springsteen with a cover.
Mayer’s current tour features the singer-songwriter playing in a number of different configurations – with a full band, solo acoustic and as a trio. To open up the solo acoustic portion of the night, the Dead & Company guitarist used the opportunity to offer up a cover of “I’m On Fire,” from The Boss’ 1984 album Born In The U.S.A.
