Joe Russo’s Almost Dead In Brooklyn
By Scott Bernstein Nov 27, 2015 • 10:50 am PST
Tonight, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead plays the first of two Thanksgiving Weekend shows at The Paradise in Boston. In addition to the two Boston shows, upcoming visits to Las Vegas, Oakland and Denver as well as the band’s New Year’s Run and Jam Cruise debut, the future for the Grateful Dead tribute act featuring drummer Joe Russo joined by guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton, bassist Dave Dreiwitz and keyboardist Marco Benevento remains unclear. But we’ll always have the three magical shows Almost Dead laid down at Brooklyn Bowl in early October, the focus of today’s Full Show Friday.
On October 2 – 4, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead showed off the beauty and power of their inventive take on the music of the Grateful Dead at the venue where it all started for the five-piece in January ’13, Brooklyn Bowl. The three-night stand was a high water mark for Almost Dead filled with highlights around every turn. We detailed the run in an open letter asking the members to “keep it going.” Recently, incredible recordings of all three JRAD Brooklyn Bowl shows were posted on Archive.org. Peter Costello and Eric McRoberts combined on-stage mics with the soundboard feed to create crystal clear recordings of the weekend which allows us to hear the nuance Almost Dead injected each night of the memorable run.
Stream all three shows below or head to Archive.org to download.
