By Scott Bernstein Mar 2, 2018 • 8:27 am PST

On Wednesday night, guitarist Joe Marcinek brought a version of the Joe Marcinek Band featuring bassist Freekbass, Particle keyboardist Steve Molitz and Jason Hann of The String Cheese Incident to The Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton, Florida. One of the tunes the quartet played was “Sand” by Phish/Trey Anastasio and video of the cover has surfaced.
Marcinek handles vocals on the 15-minute version of “Sand.” While Jason Hann plays percussion with SCI, he’s on drums in the video below. Steve Molitz starts the jam with a solo and then Marcinek and Freekbass hook up on an ascending pattern, while the keyboardist adds layers of synth. The quartet soon leaves the typical structure of “Sand” for a few minutes. Marcinek takes the final solo of the song as the rest of his band mates return to the structure of the Phish classic to bring “Sand to its conclusion.
