Joe Marcinek Band Announces New Album ‘The Groove Session’ & Shares Hard-Driving Single

Joe Marcinek Band will release their ninth album, The Groove Session, on April 29 in partnership with Vintage League Music. The outfit led by guitarist Joe Marcinek previewed the eight-song collection by dropping “Funky G Sus,” its lead single and opening track.

Joe Marcinek has employed a rotating lineup of talented musical all-stars for his project over the years. On The Groove Session, Marcinek is joined by pianist Jesús Molina, drummer Manny Sanchez and bassist Ronnie Sanchez. The follow-up to 2024’s 1 River Band also features guest appearances from keyboardist Greg Spero, violinist Tracy Silverman and legendary Flecktones co-founder Howard Levy.

The Groove Session was recorded at L.A.’s Tiny Room Studios. Vintage League Music’s Alan Evans (Soulive) mixed and mastered the album, while artist Aaron Schwartz created its cover art.

The dynamic “Funky G Sus” showcases Molina’s otherworldly keyboard playing, so it’s fitting his name informed its title. “‘Funky G Sus’ is my English sense of humor tongue in check nod to Jesús’ first name,” Marcinek explained. “We recorded two versions at a slower tempo and then he suggested we try it at a faster tempo and we knew right away this was going to be the standout track of the record!”

The Groove Session arrives on the same day Joe Marcinek delivers a Dead Funk Summit set at the NOLA Crawfish Festival. Dead Funk Summit featuring Marcinek, George Porter Jr., Big Sam, Terence Houston, Mike Lemmler and more takes the stage at the 10 year celebration of the event on Tuesday, April 29 in between Jazz Fest weekends.
