Jerry Garcia Band Live In Hampton Beach On August 13, 1984 Full Show Soundboard

On August 13, 1984 the Club Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire hosted the second of two consecutive nights of the Jerry Garcia Band. Full Show Friday this week presents a soundboard matrix recording of that JGB show featuring the legendary Grateful Dead guitarist’s talented solo band.

Jerry Garcia fronted a lineup that saw him joined by bassist John Kahn, keyboardist Melvin Seals, drummer David Kemper and vocalists Jaclyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones. The ensemble began the festivities with a rendition of the Garcia/Robert Hunter tune “Cats Under The Stars.” Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” came next, and his “Tangled Up In Blue” closed the first set. Between Dylan covers JGB offered Smokey Robinson’s soul favorite “I Second That Emotion” and Peter Rowan’s “Mississippi Moon.”

Set two opened with the Dead’s “Sugaree” followed by the Garcia/Hunter original “Run For The Roses.” Allen Toussaint’s rowdy “Get Out My Life Woman” and a lively rendition of Rowan’s “Midnight Moonlight” rounded out the second set. The Cats Under The Stars original “Rhapsody In Red” filled the encore slot and closed out the show.
