Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band ended their concert on Thursday night with help from Jenny Lewis. The show took place at the Grateful Dead bassist’s Terrapin Crossroads venue in San Rafael, California as a warmup for the ensemble’s trip to Red Rocks next week.

Lewis emerged towards the back end of the group’s second set last night. Terrapin Family Band multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby is also a member of Jenny’s touring band. A extra microphone was set up for Lewis as she sang “Shakedown Street.” Phil, Jenny and The Terrapin Family Band made a detour in the middle of “Shakedown” for “You Are What You Love,” a song Lewis wrote for inclusion on her 2006 album with The Watson Twins, Rabbit Fur Coat. Jenny stuck around to contribute keys to the “Sugaree” encore.

The rest of last night’s concert was heavy on material from the Grateful Dead’s first decade. A few exceptions were made as Phil sang Robbie Robertson’s “Broken Arrow” in the first set and Ross James led Link Wray’s “Fire & Brimstone,” which naturally came out of “Scarlet Begonias” to open the second set. Another highlight of the night was the band sneaking “Throwing Stones” within “St. Stephen” just before Lewis’ appearance.
